Liangong Weekend
12th/13th January 2008
Gently Waking from Winter's Hibernation.
Taught by UKTQF Guest Teacher, Anne Tovey, organised by Jo Hale
Liangong is a comprehensive, versatile set of exercises
which help
in the treatment and prevention of musculoskeletel disorders. The
movements are drawn from ancient chinese disciplines ( including
Qigong and Kung Fu ) and western physical therapies. They build
physical strength, keep the body supple and help to restore and
maintain the balance, function and mobility of joints.
The exercises are grouped into sets of 6 - each set working on a
particular aspect or area of the body. Each set also builds upon the
other , extending and developing movements. The aim of the weekend is
that people will be able to work through and understand the benefits
of each set. They should feel confident enough to take away and use
the exercises for themselves. The fact that each set builds upon the
others make it easier to learn but it is not necessary to do every
exercise when you are doing them for yourself. You use whatever your
body needs at any given time.
I use them regularly in my own warm ups and whenever I feel part of
me needs stretching/loosening/strengthening. I’ve been studying and
using them for 10 years and feel they are an excellent set to have in
anyone’s health “toolbox”. For example, for a month I used
3
sets specifically to build up my strength as preparation for an
intensive 3-day training session. I will often use the first 2 sets
to loosen tension in my shoulders and back - those sets are also
excellent for improving breathing and so are good if I’m feeling
stressed. Another set works more on the internal organs through
energy pathways and focus on points.
Do come along, and enjoy!
